| 3 May 2009 | Jane | Loading... Hello. I was a decorative artist, mostly animals and scenes with animals. I stopped painting and thought I would never be creative again. For some reason colored pencil came calling and I began to dabble and teach myself. I have found my creative life again and adore it. I search and search for animal drawings and techniques and stubbled on the idea I love fairy art with animals and nature and further searching brought me to fantasy art. I would love to know how to achieve some of the iridescence you put into your work. Its beautiful. Is it mostly shadow and layering? First I look around with gleaming eyes, then I get depressed and start thinking about donating my colored pencils to a charity. For me that is not only a sign of great art, it’s what I hope to achieve one day. Too bad my style isn’t right for anything like your work Rachael Mayo replies: "Thanks very much! I assure you, though, that I’ve spent nearly twenty years learning how to use colored pencils this way, and there is still much to learn. Don’t give up, and try not to worry too much about developing style. That comes in all by itself with practice. I wasn’t even aware that I had a style until someone else pointed it out to me. I mean, just color stuff! And so do you. Keep on, keep on." | |
